As Mother's Day approaches, I am constantly thinking about my mom, mother-in-law, grandmas and other important women in my life. The godly character traits that each one has is important to me. I desire to be a godly woman and their example is vital as I grow in the Lord to become the wife and mother that is pleasing to Christ.
My mom
Prov 31:13-21 "She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls. She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet."
My mom knows how to save a dollar and make a dollar. She can find anything you need for a quarter. If you don't end up needing it, she will sell it for two dollars. She spends her money wisely. She is a hard worker and she is fit for her work. She provides for her family and has enough to share with others. I have only had to buy 4 outfits for my kids. She finds such deals on kids clothes and is always giving us more clothes and shoes. She has been such a blessing to our family. She is always encouraging me to be more thrifty and to wait on purchases.
My mother-in-law
Titus 2:3-5 "Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God."
My mother-in-law knows how to love her husband. She is a good teacher to me as she encourages me to put aside other tasks and enjoy my husband and my children. Even though she is busy teaching full time, she makes time for her family.
My Grandma Margaret read her Bible everyday. I remember her Bible sitting on her dining table open to her daily reading. Her age didn't stop her frim memorizing her scripture. At the age of 80, she was still helping in Awana and memorizing her verses. She worked on her verses until she received her Timothy award.
Other Christian women have been role models.
My childhood friend, Sarah, had a mom who was always consistent in her quiet time, praying with her children, and being submissive to her husband. Even though it has been over 15 years since I have spent time with her, I will never forget.
I also met a women in LA during Madi's treatments. Yvonne is a godly woman and never spoke to us without quoting scripture. God's Word was in her heart and on her tongue.
My husbands aunt, Jane, is one who encourages me to take the time to care for others. No matter what she has going on, it is never as important as helping someone in need. She is very selfless and esteems others more important than herself.
