Our Weekly Review

I am so excited about the opportunities that come up in our daily family life. We started off the week being able to help a friend in need. We also had our pastor and his wife over for dinner. They brought yummy cookies and rice crispy treats which we enjoyed the rest of the week. Desserts rarely happen at our house. We were all happy. We spent the rest of the week working in the yard. We are trying to cut down on our grass, which will eventually cut down on our water bill. We are making a circle driveway in place of the front yard.
For our homeschooling, the kids have learned many new things this week.
BIBLE: We are studying about the life of Joseph. Our study is from Genesis 36-50. We have worked on an outline, learned the Hebrew word for Forgiveness, learned the definition of Forgiveness, and learned about the location of Egypt. We are also learning the Westminister Catechism. The kids have memorized up to number 13.
MATH: We continue our study of time. The children have worked on a daily schedule, sequencing the events of our day, learned quarter past, half past, and quarter til. They are learning their addition facts of a number plus 3.
READING: We are learning about root words, suffixes, adding another consonant when adding a suffix that begins with a vowel, and new sounds. Madi and Hunter are whizzing right through their reading books. We also started a new "My Baby Can Read" DVD. The 3 year old and 1 year old boys love this time.
WRITING: We continue to improve our handwriting through copy work. It is looking very nice. We worked on writing more letters this week.
NATURE STUDY: We learned all about the Jerusalem Cricket (gross!). I'm not a bug person, but I actually touched this one.
CHARACTER STUDY: We are studying Virtue and What Righteous people do. I love "The Narrow Way" by Pearables. The weird thing about this book is I had it on the couch on Thursday and I can't find it anywhere now. Hopefully we will find it before school starts on Monday.
ART: We studied Pointillism and made Post cards out of our paintings. Our paintings were done by using paint and q-tips. This was fun for us all and I didn't have to clean that much.
P.E.: The kids are working towards getting their green belt in Karate, so we practice a lot during the week.
We are still working on using our chore cards, and still using Motivated Moms to keep us on task for housekeeping. The boys are practicing walking and playing with everything that is not a toy. We got another swing for them, so both the boys can swing at the same time. Yea!

The puzzle pieces are fitting together

We spend much time together, as a family, reading and studying God's Word. During our breakfast time, we use the Pearables "Narrow Way" as our Character study. Our Bible is the "Student of the Word" curriculum. In the evenings, Daddy reads to us from Proverbs. With the SOW curriculum, we read through every verse of the Bible. This week we are studying Joseph. As I was reading about Potipher's wife, Madi spoke up and said, "That lady is rot to his bones". She knew that Proverbs was talking about this kind of woman, and she was not a virtuous woman. It is so exciting to see the kids listen and understand the Word of God.

Happy New Year! and Happy Birthday!

I have tried to find a time to sit down daily at the computer and type something for my blog. It was one of my goals this year. Oh well, maybe next year. The ages of my kids and the location of my computer make it almost impossible to find time to blog. I am so excited to celebrate Parker and Cooper's birthday. They are one year old! They are so much fun. The twins are a blessing from the Lord. I stand amazed in God's creation of two babies that look so much the same, yet are completely different. We are so thankful for the boys. They have grown so much and have been so healthy (except for their egg allergies). They have been saying and signing some words. They have their own language that they speak between the two of them. I hear some babbling and the next thing I know, they are off to pull the moss out of our silk tree. They play together and laugh (and cry). Cooper likes to grab hold of Parker's back while Parker is crawling. Cooper laughs and Parker cries. Parker likes to kiss and pat Cooper during his diaper change. Parker laughs and Cooper cries. They stand in their cribs and talk, throw things, and laugh. They love to eat! They love solid foods and still only have one tooth. They are not interested in bottles or sippy cups which makes weaning them quite difficult. They are taking steps! Cooper has taken about nine and Parker has taken two. I am excited to see them grow this next year. I really enjoy every moment we have together.
